For the 2021 Legislative Session, KDHA introduced legislation for licensure of the Dental Therapist. HB 2179 was introduced on January 28th, 2021 into the House and referred to the Committee of Health and Human Services, while SB 129 was introduced on February 2nd, 2021 and referred to the Committee on Public Health and Welfare.  On February 17th, SB129 was given a hearing in the Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare. We have included the audio recording of the hearing on this page for members to listen to. Per our Legislative Report from 2/25/2021, it is unlikely that most dental-related legislation, including our Dental Therapy legislation, will meet the Turnaround deadline this session, and will be tabled until 2022.

As we work to determine next steps for 2022, we encourage members to continue to contact legislators and tell them that you support Dental Therapy in Kansas. Your support is critical to educate legislators and committee chairs about how this oral health provider will be an impactful member of the dental team!
Please download the talking points and policy handouts below and send them to your legislators along with your message encouraging them to support Dental Therapy in Kansas. Also, feel free to share a personal connection or anecdote about your time as a dental hygienist and how we currently meet our patients needs and the importance of what we do.
A big thank you to all of our members for your continued support. We will continue to update you on any changes to upcoming legislation.
